Syllabus
Practical Self Defence is a very
simple seminar designed to give you control in a situation of
potential physical conflict.
1. Avoidance /
Escape This should always
be your first option, followed by verbal dissuasion. You may
encounter posturing and attempts to psyche out.
2. Awareness, if you are not switched on, every
situation will be an ambush attack.
3. Aggression starts from 18 inches away, with
deceptive dialogue. This is the primer for attack. Without the
fence, the gap will close very quickly. Be ready for the adrenal
rush.
4. Talking
hands. As soon as the
situation is apparent, put up your fence. The fence controls the
gap between you. Variations according personal preference:
staggered, exclamation, and pleading. The most important thing is
to be in control of any forward movement without being obvious.
5. Pulling /
pushing. Maintain
distance and balance. Use free hand to strike. If both hands are
held use elbows, knees and feet.
6. Pre-emptive
strike. The jaw line,
anywhere from chin to ear. Eye jab / gouge. This is not hard in its
self, the hard part is hitting first. This may be essential.
7. Sensitivity. Your lead hand is your antenna to read
body language. If the aggressor moves violently, or steps forward
then he is likely to attack. Check forward motion to maintain the
gap. Allow a maximum of two touches on the fence before acting
decisively.
8. Weapons. Knives are nasty. Don't try to be a hero,
use verbal dissuasion. If you have no option use your environment
and find your own weapon.
