The Wing Chun Federation

Alan Gibson formed The Wing Chun Federation in 1990. The federation's objective is to teach Wing Chun Kung Fu in a relaxed and accessible manner, where emphasis is placed on good technique and personal development. Wing Chun can be simply learnt by commitment and patience. Age, sex or physical size is of no consequence, and a high level of proficiency can be obtained quickly and with ease.

The Wing Chun Federation and its teachers are registered variously with the Wong Shun Leung Ving Tsun Association (UK), the Ving Tsun Athletic Association, and the Ip Man Martial Arts Association. Alan has a degree in sports studies which has furthered his understanding of the bio-mechanical, sociological, physiological and psychological aspects of the art. He has taught Wing Chun for many years and has held regular Women's Self Defence seminars and courses including work for Southampton Dept. of Adult Education, the Probation Service, The Youth Service, Southampton Working Women's Project, Southampton City Training and Southampton University. The Wing Chun Federation is also registered with Southampton Sports Development Unit.

As an independent and non-political organisation, The Wing Chun Federation often organises seminars by guest teachers. These are normally held at The Wing Chun Federation's H.Q. in Southampton. Previous visiting coaches have included, David Peterson (Wong Shun Leung) Ip Chun, Wan Kam Leung (Wong Shun Leung). We also arrange trips abroad and other projects when we can. If you are interested in attending future seminars or trips, please contact Alan Gibson (see contact page for further details).

Joining The Wing Chun Federation is simple and holds many benefits for members.

·         We can supply you with the best quality Wing Chun learning resources (see merchandise page) at trade prices, enabling you to sell items to your students.

·         You will receive a copy of the Wing Chun Federation newsletter, Fighting Talk, whenever it comes out and be able to contribute articles if you wish.

·         You and your students will be invited to all our events and seminars by outside teachers and experts.

·         We can help you with your teaching and personal development, by supplying syllabuses and exercises to help you improve your skill and knowledge base.

·         We do not want to have control over you or your organisation, you can remain autonomous and maintain your independence and identity. We offer advice, we do not tell you what you can or cannot do.

·         You will be part of a robust, no nonsense association. We can also promote you as an instructor - via our very popular web site, after an initial assessment of your needs.

·         All we ask in exchange is for you to train regularly and organise and host, at least two WCF seminars each year (with a minimum of 10 people paying £25.00 each). It is normal to have an introductory seminar, followed by a progression through the forms. However, you could select any specific Wing Chun subject that you would like to be covered in detail.
